Michal Harewood

Michal Harewood, co-founder of Inhairitance Academy, grew up in the Eastern Townships, surrounded by nature and a nurturing environment. Her mother, who struggled with alopecia caused by relaxers, wore wigs every day to cover the condition. Tragically, her mother was later diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy, leaving a lasting impact on Michal’s life and perspective on hair care. Michal herself began relaxing her hair at the age of 10 and continued until she was 18, two years after her mother’s passing. This pivotal moment led her to embrace her natural hair and shift away from the damaging practices she had followed for years. This struggle inspired her to dedicate herself to learning about natural hair.

Her research journey spans fields like anthropology, chemistry, biology, microbiology, and anatomy, focusing on the science of hair and scalp health. Michal’s passion for empowering others also led her to leadership roles. 

At Inhairitance Curl spa, Michal developed a healing space where clients could find restoration through their hair, addressing issues like dryness, alopecia, scalp infections, and tangling. Her approach treats hair care as a path to wholeness, emphasizing that hair should be viewed as an extension of nature and respected accordingly.

Michal continues to immerse herself in research to ensure Inhairitance Academy provides cutting-edge education for professionals. Her focus is on understanding the foundation of hair care, advocating for approaches that prioritize hair health over styling trends. After more than six years of research, the Academy has become a vital resource for those committed to mastering the art and science of natural hair care. Michal’s mission is to redefine the narrative, showing that natural hair is beautiful, healthy, and professional.
